Broadcasters Train at Summer Digital Media Workshop

July, 2012. MeneMAC broadcast students spent five days of their summer vacation training with Searider Productions in Waianae. Seniors Czarina Caberto and Brittany Bonilla, juniors Leah Miyasato and Melissa Ponce, and sophomore Eryn Yuasa were part of an intense week of training, sponsored by SP and PBS Hiki No.

During the first three days of the workshop, the staffers sharpened their storytelling skills: "interviewing, squences, NAT sound, L-cuts, and J-cuts" were the words of the day as teams strove to meet the standards set by instructors, John Allen III of Waianae High and Clint Gima of Maui High.

The training culminated in teams heading out to find and produce their own stories. Brittany, Melissa, and Eryn crafted a story of Ciera Lihilihi and her aspirations for ABDC, while Czarina and Leah headed downtown to capture the art of 808Urban and its work with Hawaii teens.
